Smart Power Networks (SMPnet) is looking to attract a Control Engineer to join our team and enable fast commercialisation of our products. Initially on a 12-month fixed term contract, with potential for a longer-term outlook.

The aim of the company is to transform the way energy systems are operated through smart real-time control and data insights. The successful candidate will join the Control Systems Department, to ensure the establishment of SMPnet in the sector.

What you will be doing on daily basis

  • Perform hardware and firmware integration of SMPnet’s control technologies
  • Design and integrate real-time converter control systems for LV and MV applications.
  • Prepare system requirements, functional specifications, test specifications and other documentation for SMPnet’s projects
  • Design data interfaces between SMPnet’s products and external systems, e.g. SCADA, converter control systems
  • Integrate control and field instrumentation, measurement devices, test rigs and harnesses for production projects

Essential Skills and Experience

  • NI/LabVIEW and other relevant control programming languages
  • Demonstrated strong experience with design, development, and implementation of new methods for power system control and monitoring applications (e.g. integrated Volt/VAR control, etc.)
  • Ability to design, analyze and simulate control strategies for power systems
  • Familiar with IEEE and IEC protocols standards (e.g. IEC61850, IEEE C37.118, Modbus, etc.)
  • Strong software/hardware development skills for rapid prototyping
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and team working skills
  • Strong organisation skills, and good attention to detail
  • Ability to work in our offices and travel nationally and internationally as required
  • Desire to work in a fast-moving and entrepreneurial environment
  • Must be able to work in the UK without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
